The Pros and Cons of Online Learning

These days, you can do just about everything online. You can buy groceries, find a date, file your tax returns, and even become a reality TV star online. So why not go to school online?

Online learning has been viewed with suspicion, the same way people view those diploma mill ads at the back of glossy magazines. Graduating from a respected college just isn’t the same as getting mailed a certificate after parting with your credit card details on some website. And because it’s still new, a lot of people might not really know what to expect, of course.

Learning online can range from getting a university degree online to a short course in how to use a word processor to an online training module for work. Whichever road you’re thinking of going, there are pros and cons to it.

The Pros

- One reason to go online route is that you’re already working and just don’t have the time to attend classes in person. You want to pick up new skills, but you can’t take time off work. Learning online means that you don’t have to waste time getting to and from classes and also means you aren’t limited by your location.

- Online learning is often (although not always) cheaper than learning in a classroom. As a little bonus, it’s also a little easier on the environment, especially if all the materials are in soft copy.

- Online learning is within the reach of people who might not normally be able to attend classes. For example, students with disabilities may find it easier to have classes online. Older students might feel also more at ease online than attending classes on campus.

- Although online learning has been criticized for its lack of face to face interaction, surprisingly, online discussions can get even more involved than in the classroom. Shy students who wouldn’t normally speak up in front of their classmates may join in more online as it gives them a chance to think about their responses. Learning is all the time as it is not limited to scheduled classes.

The Cons

- The most common complaint about online learning is that there’s no face-to-face interaction. Learning online can lack the spontaneous exchange of ideas that you can only get with classmates and a teacher in real time and space. Although you can still interact by chatting and emailing, it is harder. Something which could be made clear in a minute in person might take the effort of several emails going back and forth.

- Online learning can be technology dependent. You might need high-speed internet access to be able to watch learning videos or download necessary files. If something goes wrong with your computer, it is just that much easier to miss out on a class or a deadline.

- The drop-out rate for online classes is actually quite high. Being able to get through an online class requires a lot of discipline. People are motivated by being able to socialize, compete, and perform in front of others. Without these factors to push you, you may end up wasting your cash by not finishing the class.

When it’s most effective

Considering the pros and cons of online learning, it is probably most effective when it can bring together the best elements of classroom learning and online technology. For example, you can go for a course where you would have the chance for interesting discussion with people all over the world. Or take a short training module at work where you can review the materials with colleagues later.

Online learning is not without issues, but it is definitely here to stay. The methods no doubt will keep being refined after more experience with it.

Flash Animation – Making E-Learning Easier

I attended an animation seminar recently and it was quite a fun and informative event. Various animators and animation enthusiasts have attended the prestigious event. Luckily I was part of the guest list, the animation seminar started from where animation originated, from the ancient times to the first time Gertie, the dinosaur, was able to move on its own. Later modern animation was discussed.

Flash animation is one of the elearning tools used in creating learning content. It is now being used as a platform in producing animated series. From what I have observed, more and more people are acknowledging this new medium for animation. Knowing this, I asked myself, “Would an animated learning content be a better education course?”

Dora the explorer became a cartoon sensation with the younger generation. From toddlers to kids aged 7, every kid knows the Spanish speaking girl. The cartoon is basically about the adventures of Dora and her boot wearing monkey friend. They solve different problems in every episode. The treatment of the cartoon is similar to an interactive flash game. Dora will ask a question then a cursor similar to a personal computer’s mouse cursor will guide the viewers in choosing the right answer.

The show is very educational and since it involves the audience in the problem solving parts, it makes the show interactive and engaging. My 5 year old kid really likes to fiddle with my computer so I bought preschool game software. The game has animated clips and an animated character that guides him throughout the game. He loves it so much because he really loves cartoons and when I am doing paper work, I let him play with it. The result was quite impressive. There was a time when I have to show him how to solve a certain puzzle and when he encountered a similar puzzle like the one I’d solved, he solved it on his own effortlessly.

Nowadays people are seeing animation as more than just shows for children. Filmmakers now use animation as a medium in their movies. In the virtual classroom, animation is a great tool for teaching elearners through the use of flash animation. Real life situations can be animated for students to study. For example, in medical and health education courses, the human anatomy is animated and even though it is a simulated version of the real thing, the details of it are very accurate. It is like seeing the real thing as well. Online medical students can watch how medicine works on certain ailments through an animated clip which shows how the medicine is applied. Ordinary and boring quizzes can be spiced up by converting it into a more animated and interactive game rather than presenting it in a simple question and answer form.

By using animation in producing learning content, students become more interested in learning because they are learning their lessons but at the same time they are entertained as well. Elearning tools like flash animation makes online learning content and education modules become easier to understand and user friendly.

A computer graduate and loves to travel. Reading current news in the internet is one of his past times. Taking pictures of the things around him fully satisfies him. He loves to play badminton and his favorite pets are cats and walk with them in the park with some dogs.

Set Your Goals, Then tune Your Feelings to Your Goals

Your feeling are your best guide towards manifestation. It is not think and grow rich it is feel and act rich.

Do you remember when we discussed The Art of Allowing from the teachings of Abraham (Jerry & Ester Hicks)? At that time I explained that all we had to do was stop telling the old, day in day out, (negative)story. We have discussed, that our lack of understanding, and our survival instincts combined to create exactly what we did not want. Also, we know understand the concept, even if we are not yet true believers, that the Law of Attraction will do its utmost to give us exactly what we obsess about (the vibrations we send) whether they are positive (good for us) or negative. Therefore, we also understand, that natural progression leads to the important step of not thinking and talking about what we don’t want, but to convert each negative statement and thought to a positive statement or thought. Again, its not “Don’t Enter,” rather it should be “Please Enter Here.” Because the mind and eye of a person looking for an entrance will most probably only see the word ENTER

We and everything in this Universe emit vibrations. This is not conjecture but hard science. Everything contains energy (vibrations) and transmits it in some fashion. So your thoughts and feelings that characterize (make up) what it is we do not want, are constantly getting matched by the Law of Attraction.

So now we must set the Goals we want to achieve. No, see even I still do it…We must set the Goals that we will achieve. When setting goals some of the often quoted parameters are important. But the 2 most important are: First it must be something that WE truly want for our selves and not what somebody else thinks we should do.

When I say this I always think of Kris Kristopherson. Here was a young man from a military family, all the right schools, and the right career moves and achieving notable success, or at least so his peers and superiors thought. All were noticeably shaken when he stepped away from it all, let his hair grow and decided to become a musician and song writer and is now world renowned. Might he have achieved great success in his military career? Possibly, but not probably because it was not what he wanted, but what others expected of him.

The second is to limit our goals to the actual accomplishment not the how to. So its not that I’m going to go on a diet to lose weight. It’s I’m going to be: thinner, or; lose weight. Ever wonder why diets don’t work. Why you usually gain it all back if not more? This is a very simple question to answer. It’s our mind playing games with us. As soon as you actually start the diet, your mind says to itself, “Done, I’ve accomplished the goal,” and then forgets the “and part.”

At this time I like to introduce you to another very important component of the art of allowing. Your feelings and emotions are an important key of manifesting. Lets go back for a moment to the years of The Positive Mind Movement maybe you were not even born then, but I am sure you have heard about it. The Positive Mind movement worked but only to a point. Lets discuss why it worked.

First you were trained to think positive thoughts (I personally found this quite difficult and very tiring) because, if for no other reason, I did not know how to think positively when things were really bad. Never the less, it worked for many because they stopped thinking of what they did not want even if it was in an around about way. The second reason it worked was because of the heavy use of affirmations. Don’t get me wrong, affirmations are great and they do work, but 400 or 500 a day; I like to eat and sleep and maybe even take a casual moment for life, too.

Never-the-less the real reason The Positive Mind model only worked to a point is because it was missing a great important key element, emotions. We were all born with sensitive translators (filters) of our vibrations. Everything you see and hear is filtered by the mind and the filter is modified by the sense that receives the input. We have 5 senses, sight, sound, touch, smell, and taste. Everything we experience is delivered through one or more of these senses and the impact of the reception is dependent on both the number of and the extent to which each of these senses are employed. In other words filtered. Based on the type and extent of the input emotions are triggered. So. yes, we do have a 6th sense its our emotions, our feelings. In turn our beliefs are enhanced and/or modified.

Have you ever taken a multiple choice test? Typically, you are asked a question and given between 3 and 6 possible answers of which only 1 is correct or maybe the most correct. Didn’t you always prefer these tests in school, find them easier? Here in lies the nutshell, so to speak, of the overall system to utilize the law of attraction to our benefit. First, we set our goal which becomes through visualization our belief (the correct or most correct answer). In the process of visualization we are going to use our 5 senses to reinforce the process (we will talk about it, we look at pictures that show the result, we will also attempt to incorporate how it will feel, sound, and as appropriate taste). Now to drive the point home we will bring our emotions to the fight, pride of achievement, how we will feel when others complement our success, the warm glow you get when a job is well done. These feelings become the force which both transmits and amplifies the transmission of vibrations we want to get out and says , “Hey Law of Attraction over here, I’m Here, See me, hear me.”

Another way to think of it is that you’ve progressed down a long hallway. You’ve set your goals, incorporated them into your belief system and now you are standing in front of a door that opens the way to manifesting your desires, But, wait a minute, the door will not open.

The magical key to open that door is called Feelings and Emotions you must not only think your desires but you must learn to use your emotions along with your ideas and thoughts.

When you feel something has already happened there is no room for doubt, when there is no room for doubt your desires are sweet and a perfect match to your vibrational energies and the law of attraction.

So now we know the difference between the positive mind model and our vibrational matches for manifestation.

Till we meet again please remember who you really are, “Source Energy.”

Learn to Follow Through

In both basketball and baseball, one of the most overlooked and yet most crucial techniques is the follow through. Whether swinging a bat or shooting a three pointer, you won’t be very successful if you don’t follow through. The same is true in life.

Are you a procrastinator? Why is that? When you put off things until the last minute or don’t do them at all, you are setting yourself up for failure and much more stress in your life. Why rush at the last minute to get things done when you can get started right away and have things done on-time or early. You will surely enhance your probability of succeeding and if you have a project that someone else will be judging, (Like a boss or client) you will be impressing them with your sense of urgency.

Most people who are disorganized are also champion procrastinators. They put off organizing things and because they are disorganized, a mole hill starts to look like a mountain. And they put it off until they can’t put it off anymore. Anthony Robbins explains this in his pain/pleasure principle and he offers an excellent description of why people do this.

Achieve more success in the office, in business, and in life in general by always following through on whatever you have to. If you don’t, you can almost expect obstacles and failures to come your way. And in the end, the only person you will be able to blame is yourself. So get up and get MOVING!

Goal Setting Formula – Academic Goal Setting

The process of goal setting is the same regardless of whether it is for academic or career. As long as you follow through the steps that I’m going to outline below, it will be easy for you. Academic goal setting is just that your goals will focus on academic achievement rather than financial or health.

1. You have to know what you really want to achieve academically. Make sure the goals you set are clear and specific. If you say that you want to score As, which subjects are you going to score? Is it mathematics, science, or physics?

2. Develop an action plan. Once you knew exactly what you want to achieve academically, you must then plan your day to day schedule, your action plan. This is the plan that you must follow through everyday in order to achieve your goals. For example, if your goal is to score As in mathematics, then your action plan may be, to solve at least 5 mathematics questions everyday.

3. Having tests on yourself will be a good strategy to help you achieve your goals. You should do this once in awhile to make sure that you have fully mastered a certain topic.

4. Reward yourself once you have achieved your small goals. For instance, you can reward yourself by enjoying after you have got your action plan done for the day.

5. Take action and follow strictly toward your action plan. Achieving your goals is about getting things done. If you just set your goals but did not take any action, nothing is going to happen. So make sure you take action everyday.

These are the steps for academic goal setting. As long as you follow through all the steps mentioned above, you will definitely achieve what you want in your study.

If there is one thing that can make you successful today, it is goal setting. Although that goal setting is a powerful tool, many people do not know how to fully make use of it. This is what Goal Setting Formula is for. It helps you to unlock your potential toward goal setting and assist you in achieving what you really want in your life.

How to Set Work Goals

How do you set work goals? Work goals can be very different from a goal to go on a world cruise. A work goal can be mundane, it can be for small things, and it can be for big things. It can even mean totally different things than that, and we could find ourselves confused before long! End the confusion, and learn how to set work goals and move forward.

The reason for the confusion can be our definition. For example, an entrepreneur may have totally different types of work goals than an employee working in a day job – with work goals. They each could ask how to set work goals and have different aims and objectives.

One thing that unites the two is that they both have that desire for a certain achievement, and the work to get there. So now we have something to work with, and can utilize it to increase our performance and achieve more success whether we ask how to set work goals to increase our business or get us up the career ladder.

In essence whether you run the business or simply work there, the work goals you set will be similar. Most of the type of goals you set will usually be with tasks that are repetitive and can be simple.

This is the domain of systematization. You go from one task to the next. And here is where a goal setting strategy can go out the window, especially with all the repetition.

The solution then becomes to first stand back and look at what is trying to be achieved. This is why many coaches, including myself often ask whether you know your ultimate outcome.

Your ultimate outcome will be unique to you. For example, if it is your own business, then the outcome will likely be the reason why you got into business, in the first place. If you work for someone, and are setting these goals, then the ultimate outcome for you will be the pay rise, climbing up the career ladder or even being able to sustain or build on your lifestyle.

Having this ultimate outcome is essential, because it allows you to get maximum benefit whenever you ask yourself how to set work goals. Now you can look at what needs to be done in a new light.

For the most part, these mundane tasks we find on a day to day level are those tasks that need systematization. This is the domain of creating a process for the business. And even if you are an employee, you can still perform this task within your own job.

Finding the most important outcomes first and working to achieve them is the surest way to reach your ultimate outcomes. After all, when you perform 120% here, then your business increases, thus making your ultimate outcome reality. And it still works as an employee because 120% here means you have done the work to justify the pay rise.

Does this make sense? Visit the link to discover the full system I use to make 90% of my goals reality! Discover how to set work goals right now!
